New York University's reputation as a global institution exists upon pillars of ambition, curiosity and vibrancy. Rigor and tenacity weave directly into the University's brand, and the perils of the last two years have strengthened our resiliency and self-drive. Now, as the fervor to innovate and compete returns to our campus, we proudly relaunch our athletics website and brand to set a foundation that will define our future.
The heart of this foundation lies in New York City. Our student-athletes train, study, perform and grow not on a secluded campus, but in the heart of one of the most dynamic cities in the world. The NYU Violets harness the grit and spirit of the city along with all voices in the NYU community to tell compelling stories — stories that foster human connection and promote our values of diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity. Along these lines, we must reclaim our past to establish a unique identity and culture as we forge an inspired future.
This entails just the beginning. Welcome to the new NYU Athletics.
Brand Evolution

New Faces
Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Athletics Stuart Robinson began leading the department in August 2020 and — due to the cancellation of the 2020-21 seasons — the 2021-22 academic year will be his first at the helm with any athletic competition. In the meantime, he has added various new staff members to usher in a new era of NYU Athletics and prepare for the return to play.
Amber Cannady began as the Athletics Development and Alumni Affairs Coordinator in June 2021 and facilitates the advancement of the department's development initiatives for our alumni community.
Kyle Diangkinay joined the department in July 2021 in the newly created position of New Media Manager within the Athletic Communications office. He oversees the department's branding and social media strategies as well as the implementation of new media.
Kai Henson started as the Assistant Athletic Communications Manager in August 2021 as part of a restructuring of the Sports Information office. The office is now categorized as Athletic Communications to reflect the broadening responsibilities of the profession, with longtime Sports Information Director Jeffrey Bernstein assuming a new title of Athletic Communications Manager.
Devin Roban returned to the NYU Athletics Department in August 2021 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Intramurals, Club Sports & Recreation. He previously served as NYU's Intramural Director & Assistant Facilities Supervisor from 2012-18.
Robinson also hired a swath of new coaches since his arrival. David Thompson (head track & field/assistant cross country) and Tyler Deck Shipley (head cross country/assistant track & field) were appointed in August 2021 to lead both the men's and women's track and field and cross country programs.
Katie Rudolph was Robinson's first coaching hire, starting in April 2021 as Head Coach of the men's and women's golf programs. Adam Ginsburg (men's basketball) and Nikki Driesse (women's soccer) are the department's newest assistant coaches, both hired in August 2021.
New Features
The website and brand relaunch includes many new content features that add depth and resources to the promotion of our department. Violet Vision has a new look and feel, highlighted by the NYU Athletics: Anthem video and other never-before-seen promotional reels. Fresh and innovative videos will be a pillar of our content creation going forward.
Additionally, newly unveiled Ultra Violet Being Well and You Belong hubs can be found on the homepage. Being Well includes resources and tools to support our students' and student-athletes' mental health, while You Belong illustrates our commitment to inclusion, diversity, belonging, and equity. Recruiting pages have a new look as well, utilizing Adobe Spark to provide a streamlined view of our programs, resources, team culture, and more.
Building from these newly revealed assets, the focus looking ahead remains storytelling and showcasing the wide breadth of perspectives and experiences in our community.
Stay tuned.
