The Violets continue to roll.
Six New York University student-athletes were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) and Liberty League for their outstanding performances this past weekend.
Kevin Kim (Katy, TX/James E. Taylor) took home Liberty League Men's Golf Rookie of the Week and UAA Men's Golf Athlete of the Week accolades after shooting one-under-par 71 on Saturday and par-72 on Sunday at the Liberty League Preview (Oct. 2-3). In a field of 42 players, Kim tied for third place as NYU won the team title.
Nalinda Wanikpun (Bangkok, Thailand/Loomis Chaffee School) won Liberty League Women's Golf Performer of the Week and UAA Women's Golf Athlete of the Week honors following the Violets' third-place team finish at the Williams College Invitational (Oct. 2-3). She totaled six-over-par 148 and tied for fourth place in a field of 56 golfers, going from eighth after the first day to fourth after the second day with her two-over-par 73 on Sunday. It was Wanikpun's second Liberty League Performer of the Week award this season.
Camryn Menninger (Winchester, MA/Winchester) was awarded UAA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week recognition as she was the second Division III finisher at the Paul Short Run Women's College Brown 6k Race on Friday, October 1, in Bethlehem, PA. She ran the course in a time of 21:31.6, which was 10th overall in a field of 342.
Luca Mancuso (Miami, FL/Montverde Academy) garnered UAA Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week kudos after he saved all six shots he saw on goal in NYU's 3-0 shutout of CWRU on the road in the team's UAA opener on October 2.
Ella Spaethling (Larkspur, CA/Redwood) earned UAA Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week props as she paced the Violets' attack to two more wins at UAA Round Robin #2 in Waltham, MA, on October 3. No. 16 NYU defeated both Brandeis and No. 7 Emory in four sets as Spaethling delivered 14 kills in both of those matches, hitting .411 on the weekend.
Lindsey Hirano (South Pasadena, CA/South Pasadena) picked up her second UAA Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week award this season, posting 39 digs (4.88 digs/set), 16 assists and two aces across the Violets' two victories at UAA Round Robin #2. The freshman currently leads the Association in digs and digs per set against UAA opponents.
