Three Violets Score as Women's Soccer Downs Stockton

Violets Move to 7-3 on the Year

A non-conference road test saw the New York University Women's Soccer Team get back into the win column.

The Violets defeated Stockton University, 3-1, on Tuesday, October 5, at G. Larry James Stadium in Galloway, NJ.

Both keepers saved the first shot they saw on goal, but NYU (7-3) opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Ellie Marks (Seattle, WA/University Prep) netted her second goal of the year off an assist from Caitlin Fong (San Marino, CA/Flintridge Preparatory School). The helper was Fong's first collegiate point and led to an early 1-0 edge for New York.

NYU holds a 7-0 record when scoring first this season.

Catie Collins (Scranton, PA/Scranton Prep) padded the lead with a 30th-minute tally while Dominique Bevacqua (Parsippany, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) secured her first career assist on the play. Collins now sits second on the team with three goals in her debut campaign.

The Violets out-shot Stockton 7-3 across the opening 45 minutes and New York netminder Riley Felsher (Pennington, NJ/Princeton Day School) stopped both of the Osprey's shots on goal in the first.

NYU did not take its foot off the gas in the second, firing off six shots over the first 15 minutes of the period while limiting the hosts to just one.

Julie Beedle (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) converted the Violets' sixth chance of the half, tapping in a nifty cross from Fong. Beedle's tally was the first of her career and Fong supplied her second assist of the night.

The Ospreys (9-2-2) got on the board two minutes later when Jessica Heitmann found the back of the net, but it wasn't enough as New York held them to the lone goal to secure victory.

Felsher finished with four saves, picking up her sixth win of 2021.

NYU reverts back to University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Saturday, October 9, hosting Carnegie Mellon University at 11:00 am.
