The New York University men's swimming & diving team, ranked #6 in the nation by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), topped #19 Division II West Chester University of Pennsylvania by a score of 224-76 on Saturday, January 18, in West Chester, PA.

NYU swimmers won all 14 events. William Looney (Denison, TX/Denison), Giorgio DelGrosso (Keego Harbor, MI/Cranbrook Kingswood), Elan Oumarov (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Technical), and John Piccinic (Colonia, NJ/Colonia) got things started with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:33.26) and continued their dominance throughout the day. Looney picked up an individual victory in the 100-yard backstroke (51.99) before helping the 400-yard freestyle relay team take first, as well (3:09.36).

Later on, DelGrosso and Piccinic, members of the winning 400-yard free relay team (3:09.36), also managed to win a couple of solo races. DelGrosso took first in the 100-yard backstroke (56.22) and later in the 200-yard back (2:04.54), while Piccinic won the 50-yard free (21.52) and the 100-yard free (47.26). Oumarov also won a pair of individual races, the 100-yard butterfly (51.49) and the 200-yard fly (1:54.36).

"The guys swam great today," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "They came out aggressive and finished them off quickly."

In the diving events, Hunter Whitbeck (Acton, MA /Acton-Boxborough Regional ) led the Violets with high scores in both dives. In the one-meter dive, he narrowly missed first place with a score of 268.90, but later won it all in the three-meter dive after scoring 317.75, 12 points ahead of second place.

"We are in the middle of the hardest training time of the year, so to swim well today is impressive," concluded Miele.

The Violets will be back in action on Friday, January 24, when they travel to Williamstown, MA, to take on host #11 Williams College and #4 Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Williams Tri-Meet.
