Malcolm Montilus (Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham), a senior on the New York University men's track & field team, put a bow on his collegiate career, earning All-America honors in his last-ever meet with an eighth-place finish in the 400m sprint at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track Championships on Saturday, May 25, in Geneva, OH.
Montilus crossed the finish line in 47.04 seconds, a new personal best and just .24 seconds behind the NYU program record.
The Mendham, NJ, native qualified for Saturday's final with a 48.10 mark in Friday's preliminary, which was the fifth-fastest time of the 20 NCAA qualifiers. The top nine reached the final, with the top eight on Saturday earning All-America honors.
Patrick Mikel of Loras College won the event, finishing in 46.27.
The All-America honor is the second of Montilus' career, with both coming in the 400m sprint. Earlier this year, Montilus finished in sixth place at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.
The Outdoor Track & Field Championships conclude the 2018-19 NYU Athletics season.
