The New York University wrestling team traveled to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday, February 9. The event was hosted by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.

An injury-depleted NYU squad fell to the University of Chicago 36-3, before being taken down by the host Spartans 32-21. The two losses mark the end of the NYU's dual season, which finished with an impressive 15-4 record.

Junior captain Evan Drill (141 pounds) was just one of three regular starters to take the mat for NYU and was the only member of the squad to win both of his bouts on Saturday. Drill, a returning All-American,  was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the event after he won his first bout of the day via a 10-3 decision and his second via fall (4:42). The New Jersey native was also named All-UAA for the second-straight year.

Against Case Western Reserve, NYU also got victories from Izaake Zuckerman (174 pounds), Luke Ratchford (184 pounds) and Dylan Dwyer (157 pounds). Zuckerman's win came via technical fall (17-1), while Ratchford won via fall (4:58) and Dwyer earned his victory via major decision (13-3).

Drill became the eighth-straight NYU representative to win Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at the UAA Championships. His former teammate Raymond Jazikoff won the award the last two season, while current Assistant Coach John Messinger was named MOW at the 2016 UAA Championship. David Rice, Sam Galassi, Brandon Jones, and Patrick Sheehan took home the award from 2012-15, respectively.

NYU will look to get healthier before postseason wrestling begins at the end of the month.

A contingent of grapplers will compete at the Futures Tournament, hosted by Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, on Saturday, February 16. The team's starters will next compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional Tournament, hosted by Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI, on Saturday and Sunday, February 23 and 24. The top three wrestlers in each weight class at the regional tournament will earn a berth in next month's NCAA Championships.
