The New York University women's swimming & diving team opened its 2019-20 season on Saturday, October 26, by defeating Rowan University 199-101 in Glassboro, NJ.
The Violets had a trio of swimmers win two individual events.
Sydney Catron (Alexandria, VA/Bishop O'Connell) dominated the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.32) and 200-yard backstroke (2:06.68), winning both by multiple seconds. Next was
Honore Collins (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township), who secured solid victories in the 100-yard backstroke (59.11) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.36). Last but not least was
Isabella Brosvik (Brentwood, TN/Ravenwood), who took first in the 100-yard (59.33) and 200-yard (2:09.11) butterfly events.
"Very impressive performance by the women today," said Head Coach
Trevor Miele. "They all did great on the back half of a back-to-back meet."
In diving,
Carmen White (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) emerged victorious in both events by a healthy margin. After claiming first place in the one-meter dive (313.28) by nearly 50 points, White came out on top in the three-meter dive (294.45) as well.
"Having Carmen win both boards and having the upperclassmen finish so close together bodes well for the coming year," noted Diving Coach
Todd Kolean.
"The women really stepped up today and performed well," Miele added.
The Violets will return to the pool on Friday, November 8, when they host Princeton University, Stevens Institute of Technology and Drew University for day one of the NYU Fall Invitational at the Palladium Athletic Facility Natatorium in Manhattan.
