Wrestling Wins Eighth-Straight Dual

Grapplers Defeat Hunter 41-12 on Senior Day in Brooklyn

COMPLETE RESULTS (PDF)

The New York University wrestling team won its eighth-straight dual match, defeating local-rival Hunter College 41-12 on Saturday, January 19, at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.

NYU won eight of 10 bouts on Saturday and is now 11-1 in dual matches, while the Hawks dropped to 3-2 on the season.

Following the match, NYU honored its four graduating senior wrestlers -Ian Burke, Will Crisco, Jackson Kligerman, and Santino Pelusi- and one senior manager, Michael Hararah.

"This class has done a lot for our program," said Senior Assistant Coach Corey Luce. "More importantly, they've represented themselves in a great manner on- and off-the-mat and served as great role models for our younger guys. We're going to miss them, but I can't wait to watch them succeed after college."

Kligerman was the only senior to wrestle on Saturday and clinched the meet for NYU, pinning his opponent at 184 pounds in the first period.

The bout of the afternoon came at 149 pounds as NYU's Sean Lyons came from behind to defeat Hunter's Sean Miller via a third-period fall. The wrestlers went back and forth, trading the lead several times until Lyons was able to put Miller on his back and earn the pin 33 seconds into the final period.

In addition to Kligerman and Lyons, NYU also got wins from Johnathan Keltz (125 pounds), Evan Drill (141 pounds), Liam Drury (157 pounds), Kade Loughney (165 pounds), Jack La Corte (197 pounds), and Will Ortman (285 pounds). Loughney and Ortman won via fall, while La Corte and Drill earned victories via tech fall.

"We took care of business this weekend," added Luce. "We're looking to continue this momentum going forward."

The wrestlers return to action on Saturday, January 26, when they travel to Worcester, PA, for the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Invitational where they will take on the University of Southern Maine and Johnson & Wales University.
