The New York University women's soccer team snapped its two-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over host Centenary College on Tuesday, September 25, in Hackettstown, NJ.
The Violets (4-4) were led by
Isabelle Turner, who accounted for half of NYU's offensive output. She gave the Violets a 1-0 lead just 10:49 into the contest on a long run which culminated in her beating the Centenary goalkeeper, Justine Stefura, inside the post. Turner's second goal, at 70:33, was her team's third of the night. She took a cross from
Maddie Peña and buried it into the net.
NYU's other two goals also came in the second half. First up was
Julia Raith's unassisted tally at 55:37. Then,
Jade Keane concluded the scoring with her team-best fifth of the season at 85:23. She was able to beat her defender and the keeper after receiving a pass from
Lila Keltz.
Meghan Marhan made two saves in posting her first shutout of the season. Stefura had eight saves in 90 minutes for the Cyclones (2-6).
The Violets out-shot their opponents 26-3, including a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Violets return to the pitch when they open University Athletic Association (UAA) play and host Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, September 29, at 1:30pm at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
