Softball Concludes Series With Case Western Reserve

Violets Drop Doubleheader to Spartans

The New York University softball team played its second doubleheader of the weekend against University Athletic Association (UAA) foe Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, April 14, at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx.

The Violets (12-12, 1-3 UAA) dropped the first game 9-2 and the nitecap by a score of  6-0.

Case Western Reserve (20-7, 7-5) jumped right out of the gate in the opener, scoring four runs in the top of the first against NYU starter Diana King (Rye, NY/Rye Neck).

The Violets plated an unearned run in the bottom of the second, but the Spartans responded with a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings to gain a comfortable advantage.

King hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth to provide NYU with its second run.

Cassi Parulis (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) pitched well in relief of King. She came on with two outs in the third and allowed only two hits and one earned run in her 4.1 innings in the circle.

Ilissa Hamilton went the distance for the Spartans and picked up her eighth win of the season.

The second verse was much like the first as again Case Western Reserve scored four runs before the Violets came to bat. The victim this time was Olivia Mould (Kennesaw, GA/North Cobb), who started for NYU but could not escape the opening inning.

Karissa Zubulake (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) (3.2 innings) followed Mould in the circle and then gave way to Parulis (3 innings), who allowed only two hits while striking out five in her scoreless session.

Sidney Brannam pitched the complete game for the Spartans and picked up her 10th win of the campaign.

NOTABLES:

- Jacqueline Finn (Altoona, PA/Bellwood-Antis) had a productive at the plate for the Violets, going 2-for-5 with two walks.

Courtney Friday (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C. Ketchman) and Samantha Sicignano (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) each had two hits in the nitecap.

- Ashley Mains (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) had two of NYU's four hits in the opener.

- In the nitecap, the Violets were shutout for only the second time this season.

The Violets continue play at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx on Tuesday, April 17, when they host the College of Mount Saint Vincent for a doubleheader starting at 4PM.
