The New York University men's fencing team hosted Columbia University at the Rosenthal Pavilion in NYU's Kimmel Center on Tuesday, November 13.
In its first dual meet of the season, the Violets fell to the Lions 20-7.
Returning to the strip for the first time since competing at the Temple Open on October 28, NYU was victorious in sabre 5-4, but was defeated in foil 7-2 and in epee 9-0.
Zachary Schindler was a perfect 2-0 in sabre, while
Thomas Bergman,
Matt Chen and
Sterling Grube each won a bout.
In foil, both
Kyle Welch and
Zohaib Mannan produced a victory.
"Great job by our sabre team tonight," said Head Coach Steven Mormando. "I think we will get even stronger once we get some of our top fencers back from aboard next semester."
The Violets return to action Sunday, December 2, when they compete at the Sacred Heart University Invitational in Fairfield, CT.
