The New York University women's fencing team won three for its six matches at the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, on Sunday, February 5.
In the first half of the day, the Violets defeated Haverford College (20-7), dropped a close match to host MIT (14-13), and then defeated Brandeis University (18-9). In rounds 4-6, NYU lost to Duke University (18-9), defeated Brown University (18-9) and ended its day with a close loss to Boston College (15-12).
Leading the way for the Violets was sophomore
Jacqueline Tubbs, who went 13-2 in sabre. Additionally, freshman
Oliwia Szumilo (sabre) and sophomore
Anastasiya Muravyeva (foil) both finished the afternoon with strong 12-3 records.
"Each of our squads performed very well at times," said NYU Assistant Coach Lauren Willock-Wunderlich. "We picked up three good wins, and we were very close to winning two more."
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

Hannah Bennett led the way in epee with a 10-5 record.
- Freshman
Audrey Edgington went a perfect 5-0 on the afternoon in sabre.
The Violets are back in action for the U.S. Junior Olympics Championships on Friday-Wednesday, February 10-15.
