Men's Fencing Falls to Harvard

Several Violets Perform Well in Loss

The New York University men's fencing team was defeated by #7 Harvard University 16-11 on Saturday, February 4, in Cambridge, MA.

A trio of Violets-- sophomore Grant Williams (sabre), junior Daniel Sconzo (foil), and freshman Will Zhang (epee), led the way with 2-1 records on the afternoon.

"Harvard is definitely a tough matchup," said NYU assistant coach Lauren Willock-Wunderlich. "Even though we did not win, we picked up some key victories against some of their top fencers."

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

- Senior Quinten Burgunder defeated 2014-15 First Team All-American and 2016 U.S. Olympic fencer Eli Dershwitz.

"This was a big win for Quinten that should help him qualify for the NCAA Tournament," added Willock-Wunderlich.

The Violets are back in action tomorrow for the Eric Sollee MIT Invitational at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA.
