The New York University men's fencing team won one of its three matches at Columbia University on Sunday, January 22, in Manhattan.
The Violets started out the afternoon by defeating Wayne State University 24-3, but then dropped close matches to the University of Notre Dame (17-10) and St. John's University (14-13).
The Violets were led by senior
Quinten Burgunder, who went 6-3 in sabre, including a 2-1 record against each school.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

Hans Engel went 6-3 in epee.
- In foil, junior
Daniel Sconzo and freshman
Sean Grant each finished with 5-2 records. Additionally, seven others Violets- juniors
Philip Shin and
Yash Srivastav; sophomores
Kyle Welch and
Keith Kan; and freshmen
Michael Lee,
Emmanuel Lapitan and
Eric Zobel- picked up at least one foil victory.
The Violets are back in action on Saturday, February 4, when they take on Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.
