The New York University men's and women's fencing teams competed in a set of dual matches, hosted by Princeton University in Princeton, NJ, on Sunday, February 28. The dual matches followed the U.S. Collegiate Squad Championships earlier in the day.
The men's squad fenced four times against three opponents and posted a 2-2 record. The Violets picked up two wins against University of The Incarnate Word (20-7 and 19-8) and dropped two tighly-contested matches to Yale University (14-13) and the host Tigers (15-12).
The women's squad also had success in its lone match. The Violets defeated The Incarnate Word 22-5.
"Everyone fought hard during the dual meets after a very long day at the squad championships," said NYU Assistant Coach
Lauren Willock. "The men had two really close matches with Yale and Princeton, anchored by tough victories from foil and sabre."
HIGHLIGHTS:- The men's foil team posted a 12-6 record against Yale and Princeton. They did not compete against Incarnate Word due to forfeits.
- Men's sabre finished 18-9 overall in its four matches.
- The women's foil team was a perfect 9-0 against UIW.
Both squads will return to action on Sunday, March 13, for the NCAA Regional Championships, hosted by Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY.
