Fencing Teams Compete vs. St. John's

Violet Women Lose 20-7; Men Fall 22-5



The New York University men's and women's fencing teams faced NCAA Division I St. John's University in dual meets on Sunday, February 21, at the New York Fencers Club in Manhattan.

The NYU women dropoped a 20-7 decision to the Red Storm, while the men fell 22-5.

The were defeated 6-3 in foil and 7-2 in both epee and sabre.

The men were edged 5-4 in foil and were beaten 8-1 in sabre and 9-0 in epee.

The Violets' top performer of the day was Philip Shin, who had a perfect 3-0 record in foil.

Quinten Burgunder recorded the men's only victory in sabre. 

Seven different members of the women's team won one bout on the day.

"Today we fenced a very strong St. John's team," said NYU Assistant Coach Lauren Willock. "We had some close bouts, and the whole team will be eager to face them again next week at the U.S. Squad Championships."

Both squads return to action on Sunday, February 28, at the U.S. Collegiate Squad Championships at Princeton University in Princeton, NJ.
