The New York University men's volleyball team begins its 2016 campaign at the Posada Royale Invitational, which is being hosted by California Lutheran University this Friday and Saturday, January 22 and 23, in Thousand Oaks, CA.
The Violets come into this season ranked #9 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)
Preseason Poll, released January 6, after concluding the 2014-15 season at the same spot with a 17-11 overall record and a 5-3 United Volleyball Conference (UVC) mark. NYU was the #4-ranked team in the UVC Championship last year and made it to the semifinals by sweeping #5 Elmira College in the quarerfinals.
Leading the way this season will be the starting outside hitters, junior
Chase Klein and senior captain
Nick Benson. The duo represented the Violets on the All-UVC Team in 2015, as Benson received Second Team honors and Klein earned Honorable Mention.
Benson paced the Violets in kills (318), kills per set (3.74), points (360.5), and points per set (4.24) last season. Klein led the squad in service aces (24), and placed second in all four of those respective categories behind Benson.
The season-opening match will pit NYU against host California Lutheran on Friday at 6:00 pm (PST).
