Men's Fencing Wins Two on Tuesday Night

Violets Defeat Vassar and Sacred Heart; Fall to Columbia

RESULTS

The New York University men's fencing team hosted two Division I squads and one Division III squad on Tuesday night, February 10, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets defeated Division III Vassar College 15-12 and Division I Sacred Heart University 20-7, before falling to Division I Columbia University 19-8.

NYU, now 11-10 this season, was led by a strong performance by its foil team. That squad won against all three opponents. Philip Shin led the way for the foilists with an overall 7-2 record. Daniel Sconzo went 6-2, while Yash Srivastav posted a 4-0 record in the weapon.

"Our guys fenced well tonight, especially a strong performance from our foil team," said Head Coach Steve Mormando.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Several epee team members also produced solid outings, led by Hans Engel (6-3) John Cramerus (5-4), and Malcolm Lewis (3-3),

- Quinten Burgunder led the sabre squad with three victories.

- The Violets have posted a 7-2 record over their last nine dual meets

"It's been a while since we've been over .500 this season," added Mormando. "It's a credit to our fencers that they've continued to work hard and battle back to finish with a winning record."

The Violets have now completed the dual-meet portion of the 2014-15 schedule.
