The New York University men's fencing team competed in a tri-meet on Thursday, November 5, at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.

In their first competition, the Violets narrowly defeated host Stevens 15-12. NYU lost 5-4 in both epee and foil, but won sabre by a score of 7-2.  The squad followed that up with a 19-8 victory over the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) to begin the dual-meet season at 2-0.

Youth ruled the night for NYU, as a pair of freshmen sabre fencers -- Mickey Bak and Grant Williams -- posted perfect 5-0 records.

"MIckey and Grant both did a tremendous job," said NYU Head Coach Steve Mormando

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Two epee fencers, senior Mir Ali and sophomore Hans Engel, finished at 4-2.

- Sophomore Daniel Sconzo did well in foil, finishing 4-2

"This was a good start to the dual-meet season. I couldn't be happier," added Mormando.

The Violets return to action on Sunday, December 6, for the Tradition Tournament at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.
