The New York University women's volleyball team finished play at the Stevens Invitational on Saturday, September 27, hosted by the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.

The Violets (14-6) posted a 3-1 overall record at the Stevens Invite. After sweeping both of its matches on day one, NYU split its two matches on the second day of play.

The squad began the day with a tough four-set loss to Richard Stockton College (16-3), but came back with a straight-set victory over Brooklyn College (5-12).

"I'm glad to see that our blocking has been more aggressive, which means that our defense is improving every match," NYU Head Coach Jolie Ward said. "We are continuing to get better every day and we hope to carry that constant improvement next weekend when we start University Athletic Association (UAA) play."

Kacy Guajardo led the Violets offensively, recording 26 kills over three matches in the tournament and was named to the Stevens Invitational All-Tournament team.

RICHARD STOCKTON HIGHLIGHTS:

- Guajardo led the Violets with 11 kills. Katie Robinson was second on the squad with 10.

- Robinson (16 assists) and Emily Moore (17 assists) once again split the primary setting duties for the Violets.

- Three Violets -- MaTia Hughes (14), Josie Luck (12) and Robinson (11) -- all had double-digit digs for NYU.

- Nicole Frias finished with a career-high six blocks. Guajardo joined Frias with a career-best five blocks. Robinson (4) and Sonya Bray (3) also had multiple blocks.

BROOKLYN HIGHLIGHTS:

- Rayne Ellis (hit .375) and Bray (hit .438) each finished with a match-high eight kills. Ellis also notched six blocks, while Alexis Jackson and Shelby Ross finished with three apiece.

- Krstine Taves, Ashley Tosh and Brooke Tannahill each notched six assists for NYU. Tannahill also recorded a match-best 10 digs.

- Ross and Elissa Davila-Shiau registered four service aces apiece.

The Violets will return to the court when they travel to Atlanta, GA, next weekend for the first of two UAA Round Robins, this one hosted by Emory University. NYU faces University of Chicago on Saturday, October 4 at 12:00 pm, followed by Washington University-St. Louis at 2:00 pm. They continue on Sunday, October 5 at 10:00 am vs. Brandeis University.
