Men's Volleyball Drops First Match of UVC Crossover

#14 Violets Fall to #10 Golden Flyers in Four Sets

The #14 New York University men's volleyball team (11-5, 4-4) lost its first match of the United Volleyball Conference Crossover against #10 Nazareth College (11-5, 9-1) on Saturday, March 8, in Elmira, NY. The match lasted four sets with a score of 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17.
 
After trailing 20-12 in the first set, NYU won eight of the next 12 points to cut the deficit to 24-20 before losing the set 25-21.
 
The second and third sets were the tightest of the match, with a combined 26 tie scores. After the Golden Flyers captured the second 25-23, the Violets returned the favor with a 25-23 win of their own in the third.
 
The fourth set was competitive at the start, with both squads knotted at six, before Nazareth took 11 of the next 13 points to put the match out of sight en route to a decisive 25-17 victory.

- Connor Mortland notched a double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs to go along with four kills.

- Colin LaPorte recorded 11 kills and six digs.

- Nick Capriccio hit .357 with eight kills.

- Chase Klein had 10 kills on 32 swings.

- Andrew Quirk led the team with eight digs.
 
The Violets conclude the UVC Crossover tomorrow, Sunday, March 9, with two matches. First serve is set for 11:00am against D'Youville College and for 3:30pm against Elmira College.
