Men's Volleyball Gets Back to Winning Ways

Violets Defeat New Jersey City University and Hunter College

The New York University men's volleyball team (14-9) snapped a four match-losing streak with wins over New Jersey City University (8-12) and Hunter College (10-9) on Sunday, March 23, in Jersey City, NJ. The team topped NJCU in four sets by a score of 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 27-25 before beating Hunter in straight-sets by a score of 25-14, 25-20, 25-19.

The win over NJCU marks the first four-set victory for the Violets since their first match of the season on January 25, against York College. NYU dominated on offense, out-killing NJCU 60-40, but it was the Knights that held the advantage in digs by a total of 31-17.

Versus the Hawks, it was once again the offensive attack that led the way for the Violets. The squad hit .408 with 40 total kills, while holding Hunter to a .180 hitting percentage and 24 kills.

- Connor Mortland dished out 48 assists.
 
- Chase Klein had a match-high 14 kills.
 
- Phil Bueno hit .500 with 13 kills.
 
- Ryan Sharp led all players with nine digs.
 
- Colin LaPorte recorded eight kills and three digs.
 
- Nick Capriccio tallied nine kills.
 
NYU vs. Hunter Highlights:
 
- Mortland doled out 32 assists and notched four digs.
 
- LaPorte led all players with 13 kills.
 
- Klein recorded 11 kills.
 
- Sharp had a match-high eight digs.
 
- Jacob Getz hit .625 with six kills and three digs.
 
NYU returns to action on Thursday, March 27, at 7:00 pm against inter-city rival and 11th-ranked Baruch College, at the Athletic Recreation Complex (ARC), in New York, NY.
