The ninth-ranked New York University men's volleyball team (6-3, 2-2 United Volleyball Conference) lost on the final day of the UVC Crossover #1 in Cambridge, MA. The Violets were defeated by Pennsylvania-State Behrend University (5-3, 3-2) in five tough sets by a score of 21-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-20, 15- 10.
The Violets finished 1-2 over the weekend and fell to 2-2 overall in conference play.
After being knotted at 18 in the first set, NYU went on to win seven of the next 10 points and take the set 25-21. Behrend led most of the way in the second en route to a 25-22 win.
The third set was never in doubt for the Violets as they cruised to a 25-14 victory. Penn State answered with a decisive 25-20 fourth-set win.
After dropping the opening point in the fifth, the Lions went on a five-point run and eventually took the deciding set 15-10.
Chase Klein recorded 30 kills on the day for NYU, tied with Devin Zolnowski for fifth-most in school history during the rally-scoring era.
NYU nearly doubled the kill output of Behrend (75-41), but also committed far more errors (34-17) which undoubtedly contributed to the loss.
Highlights:
- Klein had a career day with 30 kills on 58 swings for a .397 hitting percentage.

Connor Mortland recorded his first double-double of the season with 61 assists and 12 digs.

Andrew Quirk also had 12 digs.

Nick Capriccio had 15 kills and two blocks.

Phil Bueno hit .333 with 12 kills.

The Violets return to action on Wednesday, February 12, when they host Massachusetts Institute of Technology in a conference match at the Coles Sports Center. First serve is set for 6:00 pm.
