Men's Volleyball Takes Down Another Ranked Opponent

#9 Violets top #14 Kean

Dylan Ramey added four digs on defense.

Box Score

The ninth-ranked New York University men's volleyball team (5-1,1-0 United Volleyball Conference) defeated 14th-ranked Kean University (3-5) on Tuesday, February 4, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. The match lasted three sets with a score of 25-21, 25-19, 28-26.

This match marked a much-anticipated rematch for the home team as the Cougars topped the Violets in a five-set thriller on March 28, 2013, of last season.

After controlling the tempo in the first two sets, NYU found itself playing from behind in the third game. The squad relied on a steady offensive attack and solid serve-recieve to overcome the deficit and win in extra points.

"We played very well today against an extremely talented opponent," said NYU Head Coach Jose Pina. "Overcoming adversity in the third set proved a lot about our character and toughness."

Highlights:

- UVC Rookie of the Week Chase Klein led all players with 13 kills.
- Connor Mortland totaled a match-high 34 assists.
- Andrew Quirk tallied eight digs.
- Dylan Ramey had a season-best six kills on seven swings with a stout .714 hitting percentage.
- Nick Capriccio and Colin LaPorte each added six kills of their own.

NYU will travel to Cambridge MA, this weekend, February 7-8, to take part in the first of two UVC Crossovers, this one hosted by #13 Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The squad is set to compete in three conference matches, with the first being against Hilbert University at 11:00 am.
