Vastola Receives Weekly UAA Honor

Senior Captain Posts 17-1 Record


New York University men's fencer Christian Vastola was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week on Monday, February 3.

On Saturday, February 1, the Violets took part in the Eric Sollee Invitational held in Waltham, MA. Vastola recorded an overall record of 17-1 in foil.

The senior team captain went undefeated in the matches against Boston College, Brown University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Hunter College, and the host and fellow UAA squad Brandeis University. His only loss took place in the second round against Haverford College, where he went 2-1.

This is the second UAA Athlete of the Week honor for Vastola this season, as well as in his career.

The Violets will be back in action on Wednesday, February 5. The squad is taking part in a quad meet against Sacred Heart University, Vassar College and host Columbia University in Manhattan.
