The New York University men's fencing team competed against Columbia University in a dual meet on Friday, February 21, at Columbia University in Manhattan.
The Violets finished the meet with a loss to Columbia's #1-ranked squad by the score of 18-9. The Violets performed extremely well in epee, losing 5-4.
Christian Vastola led the way once again with a 2-1 record in foil.
Enrique Cavazos and
John Cramerus both earned 2-1 records in epee.
With just three events left in the season, NYU will gain confidence from their impressive showing against the top-ranked Lions squad.
The Violets are back in action on Sunday, February 23, when they travel to the University of Pennsylvania for the U.S. Collegiate Squad Championships. Last year, the Violets finished third in sabre, fourth in foil and fifth in epee.
Eight other schools will be at the competition, highlighted by #4 Ohio State University, #5 Princeton University and #7 University of Pennsylvania.
