#13 Men's Volleyball Drops Home Match to #11 MIT

Violets Fall to 2-3 in Conference Play.

The #13 New York University men's volleyball (6-4, 2-3) team lost in a United Volleyball Conference (UVC) match to #11 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (7-2, 4-2) on Wednesday, February 12, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. The team fell in straight-sets by a score of 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.
 
After a slow start, the Violets seemed to gain momentum with every point.  The squad hit just .034 in the first set before hitting .250 and .207 in the second and third games, respectively.

"We really played awesome today," said NYU Head Coach Jose Pina. "I saw tremendous effort and determination all match long from my team."
 
MIT recorded just two more kills than NYU in the match (36-34).
 
"We didn't get the win we were hoping for, but MIT is a great team and I am very proud of our players," added Pina.
 
Highlights:

- Nick Capriccio led all players with 10 kills and three blocks.

- Matthew Coghlan recorded six digs in his first apperarance of the season.

- Arya Amirhekmat had eight kills.

- Jacob Getz also had eight kills to go along with five digs.

- John Holway had a match-high nine digs in addition to four kills.

Derrick Chiu had a career-best 31 assists.
 
The Violets return to action tomorrow, February 13, when they host Ramapo College in the Coles Sports Center. First serve is set for 7:00pm.
