Wrestling Wins Two at Gettysburg

NYU Earns a Pair of Conference Wins

Albonico went 2-0 with a major decision on Saturday.

RESULTS

The New York University wrestling team picked up decisive victories over Centennial Conference rivals Muhlenberg College and Gettysburg College on Saturday, February 1, in Gettysburg, PA. With the wins, the NYU grapplers improved to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in Centennial competition.

NYU first took on Muhlenberg, winning by a dominant margin of 52-4. Muhlenberg only fielded wrestlers in three weight classes and NYU took two of those three matches, earning wins by forfeit in all other weight classes. 

The squad battled host Gettysburg next, earning another impressive win at 36-9.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- DJ Albonico wreslted in two matches at 149 pounds and earned two wins. The junior registered an 11-2 major decision victory over Chayoot Chengsupanimit of Muhlenberg.

- Junior co-captain Matt DiGiovanni earned victories in each of his two matches at 157 pounds, including a win by fall over Muhlenberg's Nathaniel Spilka.

- Wayne Yuan (125), Dan Brereton (197) and John Klein (HWT) all pinned their opponents from Gettysburg to earn wins.

"Our guys wrestled real tough today," noted Assistant Coach Gene Kobilansky. "This is a good momentum builder as we look to prepare for the postseason."

NYU will be back on the mat on Wednesday, February 5, for a home dual against Yeshiva University at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. Action is set to get underway at 7:00 pm.
