Two members of the New York University fencing team,
Hans Engel and
Marissa Posner, were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week on Monday, November 10.
Freshman
Hans Engel won a bronze medal at the North America Cup on Saturday, November 8, in Louisville, KY. He came into the Junior Epee part of the tournament as the #19 seed and went undefeated through six pool-play matches before falling in the semifinals and ultimately finishing tied for third place. Two days earlier, on Thursday, November 6, Engel competed for the Violets against Stevens Institute in Technology, posting a 1-0 record.
Another newcomer,
Marissa Posner, had the best record on the women's team against the Ducks on Thursday, winning all three of her epee matches.
It is the first-career weekly honor for both Engel and Posner.
NYU's men's and women's fencing teams will be back in action on December 7 at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT, competing against the hosting Pioneers, as well as Princeton University, Harvard University, Temple University, Vassar College, and Penn State University.
