Women's Soccer Tops Brooklyn 4-0, Improves to 8-3

Violets Win Sixth Straight

Spagnola scored her first-ever collegiate goal on Tuesday night vs. Brooklyn.

NYU 4 Brooklyn 0

The New York University women's soccer team defeated Brooklyn College 4-0 on Tuesday night, October 7, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

NYU (8-3) scored three second-half goals to earn its sixth straight victory. In addition, the Violets' backline was superb in limiting the Bulldogs (3-6) offensively -- NYU did not allow a single shot attempt for Brooklyn, outshooting the Bulldogs 21-0, including 14-0 in shots on goal.

"It was a great win for us, as we produced on both ends of the field," NYU Head Coach Michele Canning said. "We're looking forward to Saturday for another UAA [University Athletic Association] matchup against Case Western."

HIGHLIGHTS

- Teressa Fazio scored the first goal of the game, putting NYU up 1-0 in the fifth minute. Stephanie Ho headed a ball off a corner kick, which bounced off the near post to Fazio, who put it past the Brooklyn keeper for the score. It was the second goal of the season for the freshman forward.

- Cami Crawford scored in the 52nd minute of the game, her fifth of the season. Mimi Tran had a well-placed cross over the Brooklyn backline to set up Crawford for the open shot and goal.

- Mckennah Spagnola followed for the Violets with her first-career goal in the 81st minute. The Bulldog keeper came out on the ball, but misplayed it, leaving Spagnola with the empty net.

- Just 1:41 later, Claire Shanahan scored her second goal of the season to put the Violets up by the final of 4-0. She received a well-placed cross from Sofia Toohey, whose pass went from the top near-corner of the box to the far post. Shanahan deflected the ball in without it hitting the turf.

- Brooklyn goalkeeper Rebecca Harmata recorded 10 saves on the night.

NYU will return to the pitch when it travels to Cleveland, OH, on Saturday, October 11. The Violets will face Case Western Reserve University in their second UAA contest of the season, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 pm. Live stats and live video will be available.
