Men's Fencing Competes at NYU Invite

Violets Earn Win Against Wayne State

Kelly led the Violets with a 12-4 record in sabre.

New York University men's fencing team faced a variety of top ranked opponents in the NYU Invitational on Saturday, January 25, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

NYU started the Invitational against #6 Ohio State University, losing 21-6. In the second round, NYU defeated Wayne State University 17-10 due to a strong performance in sabre. Against #7 St. John's University, NYU lost 23-4.  

The Yale University Bulldogs beat NYU in a tightly contested match 14-13. In the fifth round, #4 Notre Dame defeated NYU 21-6.  In the final round of the day, NYU lost another close match to the University of North Carolina 14-13.  

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Andrew Kelly led the team in victories, finishing the day with a 12-4 record in sabre.  

- Christian Vastola also performed well in foil, posting a 10-7 record.  

- In their win against Wayne State, men's sabre shut out the Warriors 9-0.

NYU is back in action at the Boston Invitational in Waltham, MA, on Saturday, February 1.
