New York University's men's volleyball team opens its 2014 season on Saturday, January 25, when it competes against York College (NY) and host Springfield College in Springfield, MA.
The Violets concluded their 2013 season with a 14-13 overall record and a 7-4 mark in its second season as a member of the United Volleyball Conference (UVC). The team also made it to the quarterfinals of the UVC Championship.
Returning senior Connor Mortland has been named to the Inaugural Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Pre-Season All-America Team. The Violet setter was chosen as a Second Team All-American by a nationwide committee of 20 voters. In addition, senior middle blocker Nick Capriccio received Honorable Mention All-UVC honors in 2013.
NYU is
ranked #10 in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) entering the 2014 season, and the squad was ranked fourth out of 12 in the annual
UVC Pre-Season Coaches' Poll.
The match against York will begin at 4:00 pm on Saturday, and the Springfield match will follow at 6:00 pm. Results and recaps will be available after the game concludes at gonyuathletics.com.
