Box Score
The New York University women's soccer team defeated Haverford College by a score of 1-0 on Saturday, September 7, in their first game of the Stevens Engineering Cup, which is being hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.
The only goal of the game came courtesy of
Cami Crawford, who dodged a defender and launched a shot from the top of the box past the Haverford goalkeeper, breaking a scoreless tie in the 70th minute.
"Cami has an attacking mindset," explained Head Coach
Michele Canning. "She took her defender off the dribble and went straight to the goal."
HIGHLIGHTS:
- With the win, NYU improves to 2-0-1 while Haverford falls to 0-2-1.
- Violet keepers
Cassie Steinberg and
Arianna Strome combined to keep a clean sheet, stopping all five of Haverford's shots on target. Steinberg registered one save and Strome notched four as each played 45 minutes.
- The NYU victory came despite being outshot by a margin of 13-6. The Violets managed just three shots on goal for the game, as Haverford's keeper Robin Chernow played all 90 minutes and recorded two saves.
"We've worked hard on organizing our defense," Canning explained. "Today was a good effort on that front."
NYU returns to the field on Sunday, September 8, when the Violets take on host StevensTech in the final game of the Stevens Engineering Cup. Kick-off is set for 3:00 pm.
