The New York University women's soccer team dropped its home opener on Thursday, September 19, to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institue, 4-1, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY. The Violets lone score came from senior
Erin Ahmed, which was her team-leading third of the season.
NYU played the Engineers to a 1-1 tie at the end of the first half before RPI took the three goal lead to finish the game in the second.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Violets had 15 total shots in the game, with four coming during a flurry early in the second half. Junior
Cami Crawford had two of those, one off the rebound of the other.
- Ahmed's goal came in the middle of the first, as the senior saw her perfectly placed free kick from outside the box go in off the RPI keeper's gloves in the top left corner.
- The Engineers were led by Sara Rothschild, who netted three for the hat trick.
- Freshman goalkeeper
Cassie Steinberg played just over 70 minutes for NYU, recording four saves. Sophmore keeper
Arianna Strome saw just under 20 minutes of action in net, stopping one shot.
The Violets will be back in action at Gaelic Park on Saturday, September 21, when they host another Liberty League opponent, Bard College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 PM and live stats and video can be found on gonyuathletics.com.
