Box Score

In its regular season finale, the 10th-ranked New York University men's volleyball team swept #11 Vassar College on Tuesday, April 9, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets (14-12) earned their second 3-0 win over the Brewers (19-12) this season with set scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-22. The teams will meet again on Saturday, April 13, in the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Championship quarterfinals with a chance to keep their seasons going on the line.

Highlights

- The match was as tight as the score indicated, with both teams posting nearly identical numbers in all categories. The first meeting between the teams of the season, a UVC matchup on February 21, was not nearly as close, with NYU winning that one 25-14, 25-15, 25-18.

- Colin LaPorte and Keith Waddell led the Violets' offensive attack in this victory, putting down 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Waddell added a match-high-tying seven digs and a pair of solo blocks.

- Connor Mortland and Andrew Quirk also had seven digs apiece. Mortland doled out 37 assists, as well.

- Phil Bueno recorded seven kills on .583 hitting in the two sets he played.

- Joe Pyne paced Vassar with 13 kills. Charlie Caldwell tallied six digs, while John Konow gave out 39 assists.

“Tonight was about getting the team ready to play Vassar again on Saturday in the UVC Tournament,” said Head Coach Jose Pina. “We could have done some things better, but overall it was a good performance and we accomplished what we needed to do.”

The quarterfinal matchup between fourth-seeded NYU and fifth-seeded Vassar begins at 10:00 am on Saturday at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. The winner moves on to the semifinals to face the victor of the contest between #1 Nazareth and #8 Penn State Behrend.
