The New York University men's volleyball team swept New Jersey City University 3-0 on Saturday, March 30, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets (12-12), ranked #11 in the nation in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll, defeated the Gothic Knights (17-12) by scores of 25-18, 25-20, 25-20.

Prior to the match, George Koch and Karl Johnson were honored and awarded senior plaques in recognition of their four years of service to the team.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- The Violets trailed 11-6 before going on a 19-7 run to end the first game.

- NYU never trailed in the second game.

- In the third game, the Violets fell behind 14-12, but scored the next seven points and never trailed again.

- Colin LaPorte totaled a match-high 14 kills, while Connor Mortland had a match-best 29 assists for NYU.

- The senior pair of Koch (5 kills, 4 blocks, 2 service aces, 1 dig, 1 assist) and Johnson (6 kills, 3 digs, 1 block, 1 assist, 1 dig) were major contributors to the victory.

- Besmir Arslani led New Jersey City with 12 kills.

"It was a good performance against a team that plays a very unusual style of volleyball," said Head Coach Jose Pina. "Their action usually causes teams to step out of their comfort zones. But, we handled it well and did a good job."

The Violets return to the court on Thursday, April 4, at the Coles Sports Center to host Baruch College at 7:00pm.
