Box Score

The 11th-ranked New York University men's volleyball team was defeated in five sets by host Kean University on Thursday, March 28, in Union, NJ.

The Violets (11-12) rallied from down to 2-1 to force a fifth set but could not pull out a victory. The Cougars (19-7) ultimately won 24-26, 25-16, 25-23, 14-25, 15-10.

Highlights

- Keith Waddell led a balanced NYU offense with 13 kills.

- Colin LaPorte recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. Phil Bueno and Nick Capriccio also reached double figures in kills with 10 apiece, with Capriccio adding five blocks.

- Connor Mortland doled out 44 assists at setter to go along with seven digs. Andrew Quirk led all players with 14 digs.

- Steve Vahalla paced Kean with 19 kills and 10 digs. Ed Jedziniak added 10 kills, while Tommy Rosario totaled 13 blocks (three solo).

"We really battled a good Kean squad tonight," said Head Coach Jose Pina. "Our ball control wasn't as consistent as theirs, and that put us into very tough hitting spots.

"The big positive is that we continue to get healthier and slowly get all our guys back on the floor."

The Violets end the regular season with a three-match homestand beginning on Saturday, March 30. NYU will host New Jersey City University at 2:00 pm on Family Day.
