#9 Men's Volleyball Sweeps #8 Medaille

Violets Clinch Playoff Berth with Play at Final UVC Crossover

LaPorte had nine kills and six blocks to help NYU to a big victory.

The #9 New York University men's volleyball team wrapped up play at the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Crossover #2 with a big win, defeating #8 Medaille College in three sets. SUNY New Paltz hosted the crossover on Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10, in New Paltz, NY.
 
The Violets (9-5, 7-3) swept the Mavericks (12-9, 6-4) 25-21, 25-15, 25-21 with a dominant offensive performance. NYU hit a season-best .418, putting down 36 kills with just a season-low eight errors.
 
The Violets finished the second and final UVC Crossover with a 2-1 record, clinching a berth in the UVC Championship. At 7-3 in UVC action, NYU still has one conference match left, at the Stevens Institute of Technology on March 22.
 
Highlights
 
- Nick Benson led all players with 10 kills and three service aces.
 
- Colin LaPorte put down nine kills while recording a match- and career-high six blocks (two solo).
 
- Setter Connor Mortland filled the stat sheet with 27 assists, six kills and five digs.
 
- Drew Steiner added five kills, five digs and three blocks, while Nick Capriccio totaled five kills on exactly five swings to go along with five blocks.
 
- Cody Smith led Medaille with nine kills and five blocks.  Trevor Barrett added eight kills and six digs for the Mavericks.

"The guys regrouped from yesterday's loss to Elmira and came back with a strong serving and hitting match against a tough Medaille team," said Head Coach Jose Pina.
 
NYU returns home on Wednesday, March 13, for a Tear It Up! contest against second-ranked and defending National Champion Springfield College. First serve is at 6:00 pm at the Coles Sports Center.
