Men's and Women's Fencing Teams Return Home to Host Quad Meet

Violets Celebrate Family Day During Thursday's Action

The men's and women's fencing teams will celebrate Family Day during Thursday's quad meet.
The New York University men's and women's fencing teams return home to host a quad meet on Thursday, February 7, at the Jerome Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

Both squads are coming off of busy weekends on the road as they each competed in the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Cambridge, MA. Both teams finished 2-4 during the meet, which was held on Sunday, February 3.

The men's fencing team was led by senior Phil Jamesson, who compiled a near perfect weekend by finishing with a 17-1 record in foil during the event. As a result of his accomplishments, Jamesson earned United Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors on Monday.

The women's team also had strong individual performances, as they were led by sophomore Audra Fox, who finished 15-3 in foil during the meet. Senior Jackie Leval also had a strong day in sabre, as she compiled a 12-6 record.

Additionally, the women's team saw action on Saturday, as they defeated Tufts University 14-13. Fox and Leval were both unbeaten in the victory. Overall, Fox finished 18-3 for the weekend while Leval was 14-6.

Thursday's quad meet will be the final home matches for the fencing teams for the 2012-13 season. The Violets will celebrate Family Day and honor their graduating seniors when they host Vassar College, Sacred Heart University and Columbia University.  The action begins at 5pm.
