The New York University men's and women's fencing teams return home to host a quad meet on Thursday, February 7, at the Jerome Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
Both squads are coming off of busy weekends on the road as they each competed in the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Cambridge, MA. Both teams finished 2-4 during the meet, which was held on Sunday, February 3.
The men's fencing team was led by senior
Phil Jamesson, who compiled a near perfect weekend by finishing with a 17-1 record in foil during the event. As a result of his accomplishments, Jamesson earned United Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors on Monday.
The women's team also had strong individual performances, as they were led by sophomore
Audra Fox, who finished 15-3 in foil during the meet. Senior
Jackie Leval also had a strong day in sabre, as she compiled a 12-6 record.
Additionally, the women's team saw action on Saturday, as they defeated Tufts University 14-13. Fox and Leval were both unbeaten in the victory. Overall, Fox finished 18-3 for the weekend while Leval was 14-6.
Thursday's quad meet will be the final home matches for the fencing teams for the 2012-13 season. The Violets will celebrate Family Day and honor their graduating seniors when they host Vassar College, Sacred Heart University and Columbia University. The action begins at 5pm.
