Men's Fencing Back in Action

Violets Compete at Sacred Heart Tradition Tournament

Andrew Kelly had an outstanding day on Sunday.
The New York University men's fencing team competed in the Sacred Heart Tradition Tournament, hosted by Sacred Heart University, on Sunday, December 8, in Fairfield, CT. 

The Violets finished 1-4 in their five matches on the day.

NYU defeated Vassar College 20-7 before falling to Princeton University 18-9, Penn State University 23-4, Harvard University 18-9, and host Sacred Heart 15-12.
 
Highlights:

- In sabre, Andrew Kelly had a strong showing, finishing 12-2 overall.

- Christian Vastola and David Popkin both beat Jerry Chang, who is a 2012 Junior World Team silver medalist and recently won an individual bronze medal at a Junior World Cup in London earlier this year.

- Evan Accardi beat Alexander Eldeib, who is a two time US Junior World Team member.

- The Violets are now 2-5 this season.

"Andrew had a great showing against some of the top teams in the country," said NYU Head Coach Steve Mormando. "We also had outstanding performances from Christian Vastola, David Popkin, Jon Philippou, and John Cramerus."

The Violets return to team competition when they host the NYU Invitational at the Coles Sports Center on Saturday, January 25.
