The New York University men's basketball team dropped the second game of its two-game midwest road trip, falling to the University of Chicago 77-58 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) game on Sunday, January 20, in the Windy City.
The Maroons (8-8, 2-3) shot a blistering 63.6% from three-point range (7-11) and 56.7% (17-30) from the field in the first half in taking a 41-27 lead at intermission.
The Violets (12-4, 2-3) got to within eight points, 52-44, on
Max Wein's trey with 9:45 left, but were outscored 25-14 the rest of the way.
NYU scored the first three points of the game on
Carl Yaffe's three-pointer, then led 11-10 when a 16-7 run by Chicago gave the Maroons the lead for good.
Highlights:
- Yaffe scored 11 points and has moved into 14th place on the Violets' all-time scoring list with 1,232. He also had a team-high five rebounds along with four assists and a block.

Devin Karch scored a team-high 15 points.

Evan Kupferberg chipped in with eight points, a rebound and a career-high-tying three assists.
- NYU shot 50% from the field (24-48), but was outrebounded 37-21, including 13-1 on the offensive glass.
- Sam Gage led four Maroons in double figures with 18 points.
- Neither team attempted a free throw in the first half. NYU was 4-6 in the second, while Chicago went 3-5.
"We were really challenged on the glass and they deserve credit," said Head Coach
Joe Nesci. "We did not do a good job defending on the perimeter."
NYU returns to the court on Friday, January 25, for a UAA game at #2 University of Rochester at 8:00 pm.
