The New York University women's soccer team lost its University Athletic Association (UAA) opener on Saturday, September 29, falling 2-0 at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.
The defeat snapped the Violets' (6-3, 0-1) winning streak at four games and was the first time they were held scoreless all season. NYU was last shut out on October 8, 2011, a stretch of 16 games.
Highlights
- Jessica Sabers gave the Spartans (6-2-2, 1-0), ranked #8 in the Great Lakes Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the lead in the 17th minute. She headed in Deena Levey's corner after a touch from Maeve Goede.
- Rachel Bourque expanded Case's lead in the 57th minute, taking a feed from Levey and burying a shot from 15 yards out to the right post.
- The Violets pressed to come back in the final 35 minutes, but could not find the back of the net.
Claire Shanahan had the squad's best chance, sending a shot towards goal with the keeper out that was knocked away by a Spartan defender at the last second.
- For the game, NYU held a 15-13 edge in shots.

“It was a great effort,” said NYU Head Coach
Michele Canning. “We played well, but they finished their chances and we didn't.”
The Violets return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 3, when they travel to William Paterson University for a 7:00 pm non-conference clash.
