The fifth-ranked New York University men's volleyball team defeated Eastern Mennonite University in three sets (25-18, 25-17, 25-17) in its first match of the Carthage/MSOE Tournament on Friday, March 16, at Cathage College in Kenosha, WI.
Many Violets saw playing time in the first match, but it was the usual starters who led the way for NYU.
Taylor Fauntleroy and
Nick Capriccio each tallied double-digit kills.
Fauntleroy had a match-high 13 kills to go along with his four digs and perfect 1.000 serving percentage. Capriccio racked up 11 kills with two digs and one block.
Pat Dodd also had a stellar night with nine kills, five digs and three blocks.
Connor Mortland doled out 38 assists on 71 sets, giving him a .535 setting percentage.
For the Royals, Chris Moise and Greg Knight each had a team-high nine kills.
NYU was not as fortunate in its second match, losing to the host (and third-ranked) Carthage College in straight sets (25-14, 25-20, 25-22).
Capriccio led the Violets in the second match with 10 kills. Dodd and Fauntleroy each tallied six.
Mortland had 29 assists, three kills and three blocks.
Jay Hayes was the only other Violet in double digits with 11 digs.
For the Red Men, Randy Hansen led the way with a match-high 13 kills.
Tomorrow NYU faces off against fourth-ranked Juniata College 10:00 am (cst). The Eagles boast a 16-6 overall record and sit atop the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Eastern Division. The final match of the road trip is scheduled for 6:00 pm (cst) on Saturday, against another CVC foe, the Milwaukee School of Engineering. MSOE is 11-7 on the season.
