Men's Volleyball Set to Compete in First UVC Crossover

Violets Look to Remain Undefeated in the Conference

Captains Jay Hayes (r) and Patt Dodd (l) lead the Violets into UVC play.
The New York University men's volleyball team looks to continue its climb up the rankings as the squad approaches its first ever United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Crossover event this weekend. The team is traveling to Hoboken, NJ, to compete in the UVC Crossover #1, hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology.

Currently, the Violets have a #7 ranking in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 15 Division III Poll.

All 12 UVC schools will be competing at this event, although the Violets are competing in just three matches. Their first test is on Saturday, February 11, and the final two contests are on Sunday, February 12.

NYU is currently 3-2 on the season with a perfect 1-0 record in the UVC. The squad won its first ever UVC match this past weekend, beating SUNY-Institute of Technology in straight sets.

On Saturday at 3:00pm, NYU faces #10 ranked Medaille College. The Mavericks boast an 8-2 overall record with a perfect 1-0 conference mark.

It doesn't get any easier for the Violets on Sunday, as they open the day at 10:00am against last year's National Champion Nazarath College. The Golden Flyers opened up this season with the top ranking before falling to Medaille in a tough five-set battle. Now sporting a 6-3 overall record with a 0-1 UVC mark, the team is currently ranked #6 in the polls.

The Violets final test of the event comes at 2:00pm on Sunday, as they take on Hilbert College. Hilbert is currently riding a five-match losing streak as they enter the event 1-6 and are winless in the UVC this season.
