Men's Fencing Team Goes 1-2 at Columbia University Meet

Violets Defeat Vassar College

Jamesson had a team-high eight wins.
The New York University men's fencing squad competed against three other teams at Columbia University on Wednesday, February 8.

In the first match, the Violets fell to Sacred Heart University 17-10, before rebounding against Vassar College, winning 17-10. In the final match, host Columbia showed its might with a 21-6 victory.

The 1-2 outing for NYU leaves the team's overall record at 6-16.

Several Violets had impressive performances to lead the team. In foil, Philip Jamesson led the way with an 8-1 record, while Andrew Ark and Christian Vastola went 6-3 and 5-1, respectively.

In epee, co-captain Ricky Woodward ended the day with a 5-4 record.

With the dual-meet season wrapped up, the Violets now look forward to the championship season. Several NYU fencers will return to the strip when the Violets host the U.S. Collegiate Fencing Squad Championships at the Coles Sports Center on Sunday, Feb. 26.
