The #6-ranked New York University men's volleyball team defeated Bard College in straight sets on Wednesday, February 15, in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
It was no contest from the start, as NYU coasted to a 25-15, 25-17, 25-20 victory.
This win is the sixth straight for the Violets as they improve to 7-2 on the season. Even more importantly, the team remains perfect in the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) at 5-0 and keeps pace with local rival Stevens College atop the UVC East Division.
Seven of the team's 16 members were unable to make the trip, including two of its starters due to classes and injuries.
With starting middle blocker
Nick Capriccio out due to injury, it was
George Koch that filled in at the position. He had a solid night with four kills on seven attacks with four total blocks.
Starting opposite hitter
Matthew MacDonald was unable to travel due to class, so it was
Parker Kolodka that stepped up on the wing. He totaled nine kills on just 13 attempts.
“It was the combination of excellent play from the reserves and quality play from our starters that won it for us tonight,” said head coach
Jose Pina.
Sophomore setter
Connor Mortland put in another incredible performance with 40 assists on just 60 passes. He added five digs, one kill and one block.
Taylor Fauntleroy was the only player with double-digit kills, posting 13 on 18 total attacks. Senior captain
Pat Dodd hit very impressively, as well, with nine kills on just 11 attacks and zero errors, giving him an .800 hitting percentage for the match.
“Taylor and Pat were just too strong for Bard to handle,” added Pina.
The Violets next match is against UVC opponent Ramapo College at the NYU Tri-meet on Saturday, February 18, at 1:00pm in the Coles Sports Center.
