The #7-ranked New York University men's volleyball team won its final two matches of the UVC (United Volleyball Conference) Crossover #1 in Hoboken, NJ, on Sunday, February 12.

In a highly anticipated match, the Violets (6-2) defeated defending Division III Champion and current #6 Nazareth College in five sets (25-20, 21-25, 25-20,20-25,15-13). This marks the first time NYU has ever defeated Nazareth.

Sophomore setter Connor Mortland posted a season-high 54 assists and a season-high 12 digs.

Senior captain Pat Dodd also posted a double-double, recording 16 kills and 12 digs. However, it was his passing that impressed head coach Jose Pina the most.

"Dodd did many things well today, but it was his passing off of service receptions that really kept us in the match," said Pina.

Junior Taylor Fauntleroy was the only other Violet to record double-digit kills in the match with 17. Senior Luke Hamlet led the team with six total blocks and nine kills.

"This win gives our team the confidence to know that we are capable of competing with any Division III volleyball program in the nation," Pina added.

In the final match of the day against UVC foe Hilbert College, Pina was able to get every member of the squad some playing time. Hamlet led the way with 10 kills.

Junior setter Karl Johnson posted a career-high 33 assists en route to NYU's decisive three-set victory (25-11,25-18,25-19).

The Violets improved to 4-0 in UVC play with the two victories.

NYU's next match is Wednesday, February 15, at 7:00pm against Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
