The New York University women's soccer team continues to rewrite the record books under Head Coach
Michele Canning, as a pair of major school records fell in the Violets' 4-0 victory over St. Joseph's College-Long Island on Monday, October 8, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
Melissa Menta scored two goals to break the school record for points in a season. The freshman now has 32 points (12 goals, eight assists) in 12 games this season, one better than the mark set by Angela Pitassi in 1995, the inaugural season of NYU women's soccer.
Serra Tumay assisted on one of those goals, giving her the new school record for career assists with 20. Tumay already owns the program mark for career points, now at 68.

Mary Clair gave the Violets (9-3) the lead in the 23rd minute. After a scramble in the box,
Natalie Beach played a short pass to Clair, who tucked a shot under the crossbar for her second career goal.
- Menta made it 2-0 just 19 seconds later, putting in a ball from
Cami Crawford.

Amelia Hammerl put the Violets up 3-0 in the 55th minute, heading in a cross from
Ashley-Simone McKenzie.
- Menta's second goal put the game at the final margin and made history for both her and Tumay. The senior captain played a long through ball from behind midfield, and Menta chased it down and buried it past the keeper.
- For the game, NYU held a 27-4 edge in shots over the Golden Eagles (8-5-2). The Violets earned their fourth shutout of the season and have now won seven of their last eight contests.
NYU returns to action this weekend with a Friday-Sunday University Athletic Association (UAA) road trip. The Violets first face fifth-ranked Washington University on Friday, October 12, at 5:30 pm central time in St. Louis, MO.
