Box Score

The New York University women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 at the University of Chicago on Sunday, October 14, in Chicago, IL.

With the loss, the Violets (9-5) dropped to 1-3 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while the Maroons (9-4) improved to 2-2.

Highlights

- Natalia Jovanovic gave Chicago the early lead in the 12th minute. After Sara Kwan got free in the box, she played a short cross to Jovanovic for a close-range finish.

- NYU had its best chance of the first half in the 23rd minute. Serra Tumay played a free kick into the box, which just missed the head of Erin Ahmed and was punched away from danger by the keeper.

- In the 29th minute, the Maroons expanded their lead on a play again set up by Kwan. She collected Brigette Kragie's corner outside the box and crossed it to Madeleine Horvath, who tapped it in.

- The Violets possessed the ball for most of the early stages of the second half as the wind picked up and rain began to fall at Stagg Field. Tumay and Cami Crawford both had great chances on feeds from each other, with Tumay's shot stopped by the diving keeper and Crawford's left-footed strike going just wide.

- Meg Patten finished with 10 saves in goal for NYU, while Jacina Reid made five stops for Chicago to earn the shutout.

The Violets return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 23, for their final non-conference game of the regular season. The squad will face Mount St. Mary College at Gaelic Park at 7:00 pm.
