Box Score

The New York University men's volleyball team opened its regular season on the road with a tough five-set loss against Rutgers-Newark on Friday, January 20, at the Rutgers-Newark Golden Dome Classic in Newark, NJ.

The Violets, ranked #4 in the preseason American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 15 Division III Poll, won the first two sets (25-22, 25-22) before dropping the next three (16-25, 21-25, 9-15).

A trio of sophomores shined for the Violets. Parker Kolodka had a team-high 11 kills, Nick Capriccio added seven kills, and Connor Mortland tallied 35 assists.

Three seniors also had an impressive night. Opposite/middle blocker Luke Hamlet notched nine kills and a team-high three service aces.  Captain Pat Dodd contributed seven kills, while his defensive counterpart, captain Jay Hayes, tallied 11 digs.

Although the team filled up the stat sheet, there is one stat they are certainly not proud of. The Violets committed 35 attack errors to go along with their 41 kills, giving them an attack percentage of .just 054.

Austin Pappas and Marcin Midura dominated the net for the Scarlet Raiders. Pappas had 14 kills, six digs and six block assists, while Midura added 13 kills and five digs.

The Violets will look to get into the win column at the Rutgers-Newark Golden Dome Classic on Saturday, January 21, against Hunter College. First serve is set for 7:30 pm.
